The story of the forgotten letter…

Posted in Miscellaneous on April 26th, 2007 by Jan

Here’s something I got from Jeff – a Letter.

It goes like this: Leave a comment and I’ll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you like starting with that letter.
Post them in your blog, and give out new letters to your commenters in turn. NO TAGBACKS ALLOWED, unless a commenter specifically requests to be given a letter.

So, my letter is the letter K…

  1. Keyboards – for typing and making music
  2. Kisses (ofcourse!)
  3. Kernel (you know, the thing that makes operating systems tick – yes, I’m a geek)
  4. KDE (my favourite desktop environment)
  5. Kitties
  6. Keys (help you getting places)
  7. Ketchup, curry!
  8. Knitwear (especially that knitted by my gf!)
  9. Knowledge – you can’t ever have enough of that
  10. Kudos – getting or giving ;)

If you want a letter, just leave a comment!

Outside

Posted in Cavies on April 22nd, 2007 by Jan

Today I put them little critters outside for a change, in an old cage we have standing around. It was obvious that they had a bit of a hard time adjusting to all the noises that are there and as such they were hiding a lot…

But – again next weekend! So they can get used to it! :) But I’ll get a bigger cage, so they have more space to hop around.

Hack a Mac

Posted in Mac OS, Software-related on April 20th, 2007 by Jan

Anyone want to Hack a Mac and get paid for it? Well, now you can:

TippingPoint, which runs the Zero Day Initiative bug bounty program, is offering to pay $10,000 to the hacker who commandeers one of two MacBooks. The target computers are connected to a wireless access point and fully patched, including the update for 25 vulnerabilities that Apple released on Thursday.

EDIT:
Macworld reports on a winning “hack” claimed by Shane Macaulay and Dino Dai Zovi for the Hack a Mac contest at CanSecWest this week.

WiFi’s bad, mmmkay?

In case you don’t hate SCO yet (or don’t know them), they’re a company that sued IBM because they had allegedly put SCO code into the Linux kernel. The whole thing still has to be proven, point, counterpoint, yadda yadda yadda. Basically they want to make everyone pay a license to them if you use linux. Old news.

Newer news: SCO wants to ban open WiFi networks, because it would allow people to download… wait for it… omg… porn!

What the f<beep>k?

Firstoff: SCO, get a life.

Second: I don’t get the allmighty USA, I don’t get Americans.
Everybody has a gun, that’s allright, fact that you can get a gun without much trouble – no fuss there. What could possibly be the trouble? Someone might think that after the Virginia Tech shooting they’ll grow a brain, but I doubt it.

But really! OMG !!11!!!!! Someone might be looking at porn! OMG! There’s a hack that modifies a game that lets you see non-nude people doing sexual movements! OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! Call in the fire brigade! I’m amazed they haven’t decided yet to throw a nuke on every open accesspoint they see, or declare them to be WMD.

Come on Americans! Wake up! Get a life!

Leopard delayed until october…

Posted in Mac OS, Software-related on April 13th, 2007 by Jan

From http://www.apple.com/hotnews/, there’s an Apple Statement:

iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned. We can’t wait until customers get their hands (and fingers) on it and experience what a revolutionary and magical product it is. However, iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price – we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned. While Leopard’s features will be complete by then, we cannot deliver the quality release that we and our customers expect from us. We now plan to show our developers a near final version of Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October. We think it will be well worth the wait. Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we’re sure we’ve made the right ones. [Apr 12, 2007]
